New GMC Acadia Is A Technological Marvel
The all-new 2024 GMC Acadia has been setting the world on fire with the love and respect journalists and car buyers have given to the new 3-row GMC. Many reviewers have loved the new engine, interior style, increased cargo space, and overall design. In a new review for Popular Science, author Kristin Shaw gave a glowing perspective of what makes the new Acadia so darn good.
New Engine Performance
This latest mid-size GMC SUV is more capable than the previous generation model that it replaces. In place of the old V6 that delivered 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque is a new 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque that is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, the Acadia can tow up to 5,000 lbs, compared to only 4,000 lbs for the previous model.
Safety, Safety, Safety
While a bigger engine and more towing capacity is a good thing, Ms. Shaw highlighted how great it was that the latest Acadia took safety to another level, saying, “More impressive are the driver-assist technology aids, which number at 15. Forward and rear collision alert, rear cross traffic braking, adaptive cruise control and more features are standard, including two key aids focused on saving kids’ lives–rear seat reminder and front pedestrian and bicycle braking. Parents of teens will appreciate the software behind GMC’s “buckle to drive” feature, which is part of the automaker’s teen driving protection technologies. Grown-ups can set a speed alert warning, speed limiter, and settings that keep new drivers from abusing their volume knob while driving.”
A Fresh Interior With More Space For Everyone And Everything
The larger size is much appreciated when you are inside the Acadia. A growing family needs more space, and sometimes that means buying an even bigger vehicle than you want just to get the interior volume you need. Popular Science mentioned this: "Now sporting more weight due to its larger size, the Acadia comfortably seats seven or eight people across its three rows and feels like it grips the road without lumbering. It’s 10.6 inches longer and 3.2 inches taller than before and offers more cargo space; GMC says it boasts a nearly 80 percent improvement behind the third row alone and 36 percent more behind the second row. And yet, it feels light on its feet, the transmission smoothly parsing out gears with efficiency.”
All Angles Covered
Modern technology can sometimes detract from how great a vehicle is or can be. However, the GMC Acadia has added features that are just smart, even if you won’t use them a ton. Shaw talked about how nice it was to have cameras around the vehicle when driving, saying, “Another important safety feature in the Acadia is its camera setup. Seven camera views are standard, and that bumps up to nine when choosing the optional rear camera mirror and trailer assist view. I tested this out on a Sierra heavy-duty pickup truck several years ago and was impressed by the number of camera angles available to me. Whether you’re towing or not, having those extra electronic eyes all around the SUV improves on- and off-road navigating.”
Super Cruise Is Super
For the first time ever, the 2024 GMC Acadia can also be optioned with GM Super Cruise, the game-changing, truly hands-free advanced driver assistance technology. With more than 750,000 mapped roads throughout America and Canada, Super Cruise allows you to feel safe and secure while taking any trip.
